Therapeutic Cleaning

The physical act of cleaning holds a great many benefits for your mind, body and soul. This easy way to clear your head, relieve some stress and get your blood flowing is often overlooked or ignored by many people. Whether you choose to tackle a small and specific area within your own house or in your workspace, or if you choose to clean in an effort to help someone less fortunate, cleaning can be a cathartic and fulfilling experience.

Although it is most commonly viewed as a necessary evil or at best a hassle or chore, the importance of cleanliness truly is universal. No matter what else is happening in your life, the effort you put forth to maintain a clean and organized space can be vital to your well-being. When you complete a daunting cleaning project, the cleanliness level which surrounds you can become a beacon of hope, a wellspring of satisfaction and a gateway to your inner desires. The air will smell fresher, food can taste better and you may be more apt to invite others into your home or office for a visit.

Just like other facets of your life, you must first recognize what motivates you to clean before actually beginning the process. Whether is it in an effort to impress someone, to live in a germ free home, or simply to become more organized, here are a few tips to get you started.

Put on some comfortable and easy to move in clothing, like pajamas or workout clothes (when done correctly, cleaning is good cardio). Be sure to include supportive shoes in your ensemble. If you have long hair, pull it back into a ponytail or use clips to keep it out of your face. Set your phone to silent mode. Pick out your favorite playlist, radio station or TV channel and turn up the volume. If you’ll be using any toxic or fume filled cleaning products, open up a few windows in order to get a cross breeze. Lastly, gather all of your cleaning tools into one area. Now you are ready to begin!

The idea is to reduce distractions as much as possible. Sometimes, even the smallest interruption can throw off the flow and positive energy which is created during the cleaning process. Remember to stay focused on the task at hand. Do so, and you are far more likely to succeed in your cleanliness goal. Keep in mind that these suggestions are intended for a deep and thorough cleaning, not a minor sprucing up (this can be done regularly with little to no preparation).

Clean from top to bottom. It seems like common sense, but many times this elementary idea is forgotten or dismissed when someone begins to clean. Instead of constantly fighting against it, use gravity to assist you in your process. Begin with ceiling fan blades, air vents and hanging wall art before moving on to the more obvious problems areas such as the floor or countertops.

You’ll feel a huge sense of accomplishment having properly cleaned a space. You’re thoughts and feelings will come in clearer and your body will be stronger than it was before. You’re risk of bacterial or viral contamination will be greatly reduced and so will any allergens in the air such as dust, pet hair and mold. So get healthier by cleaning today!
