Differences Between Psychics, Mediums and Clairvoyants
In the psychic world, there seems to be much confusion over definitions. What exactly is a psychic, medium and clairvoyant? How can a layperson tell between the three?
Many people do not realize the differences between various types of psychic seers. For those searching for someone to communicate with spirits and energies, the distinctions can be substantial.
Here is what the dictionary says about each:
- Psychic –Relating to mental forces, telepathy or extra-sensory perception
- Medium – Living people who are able to communicate with spirits of those who passed from the physical realm
- Clairvoyants –Individuals with the ability to see things beyond normal senses
Check the thesaurus, and you might see all three words used as synonyms. The word psychic is under clairvoyant, clairvoyant is under medium, and so on. It certainly makes the whole issue bewildering!
This uncertainty makes it hard to identify what (or who) you get when talking or chatting with a psychic, medium or clairvoyant. Do you really need a clairvoyant, or are you better off with a medium or a psychic?
It is possible you need all three, two or only just one!
Psychics
Psychics are people that read your spirit and are most likely to tell you about your past, present and future.
In a reading, there are many things a psychic could not possibly have known prior to your reading. This makes psychics literally true, at least in the definition of the word. They form a 'mental connection' with you, reading your energy field, so they are sensitive and able to observe your thoughts and energy.
Clairvoyants
There are (at least) three separate “clairvoyant” abilities:
- Clairvoyance — translates into “clear seeing.” Clairvoyants have visions, dreams and other visual cues from the spirit realm.
- Clairaudience — described as “clear hearing.” They hear from the spiritual realm.
- Clairsentience — “clear sensing.” This occurs frequently when contacting someone who passed due to illness or a medical condition.
All three “clairvoyants” work with an ability to experience images of people, places or things in the mind’s eye. They are often able to discuss these events during a reading. Clairvoyants are not fortunetellers or seers of the future, although you may receive information about the future in a reading. Regardless, clairvoyance is simply clear seeing, hearing or sensing, not seeing into the future.
A good clairvoyant validates things for you that occurred in the past and clarifies things happening in the present.
Mediums
Mediums are a little trickier to define. One description of “medium” is the process by which spiritual knowledge passes. Mediums are a conduit through which all energy flows.
A medium, at least in this sense, is a “channel.”
That definition might be a little broad; we all are channels of energy, at one time or another. Artists who paint or sketch are a “medium” (as well as the pencil or brush) with creative energy flowing to create art. The same is true for singers (the medium is the voice). Spiritual healers are mediums through which healing energy flows to their clients.
You get the idea.
Individuals that say they are genuinely clairvoyant (or a medium) are able to describe loved ones from the spirit world. They can visualize things around your home, or members of your family. The truth is, there are some people who go by the name clairvoyant (or call themselves mediums) that are neither!
They may have psychic or reactive power, but do not “see” anything at all. They are not able to “talk” with loved ones who passed or other spirit entities. They may be exceptionally good readers—Tarot, Tea Leaves, Palms, Crystals and the like—but they might not give you the knowledge you actually wanted.
When choosing a spiritual reader, never be afraid to ask how they work.
A few well-placed questions will give you an idea what to expect in a reading. The best psychics, mediums or clairvoyants will always be ready to explain their specific techniques.
