I began meditating at eight years old, and over the years, I've learned that rest is essential. As the saying goes, “There is a time to reap, and there is a time to sow.” Balance is key. Those who make meditation a daily habit enjoy healthier minds, bodies, emotions, and spirits. They also have less time to entertain negativity or destructive thoughts.

No definite amount of time needs to be dedicated to meditating. If you have never meditated, I recommend sitting still for three to five minutes as a place to start. Once you get the hang of sitting in an upright position and quieting your thoughts, you can increase the time spent daily on meditation.

Some people meditate three times a day for just five minutes, while others prefer longer sessions of 30 minutes to an hour. Both approaches help expand awareness and consciousness. A consistent practice protects the mind from subliminal programming and negative thoughts that can seep into daily life. After all, we are all connected, sharing both good energy and less favorable energy as part of the collective consciousness.

Setting aside time each day to honor silence brings clarity to the mind. Worries melt away, and the sounds of nature become beautifully vibrant. Aligning yourself with nature—whether it's listening to birds, watching rain fall, or smelling the flowers—is a priceless gift.
