The Legend of the Bermuda Triangle
The Bermuda Triangle has long been a legend that people have believed in for many years and with good reason. It is one of the most popular tales within the western folklore realm and continues to make people wonder and question to this day. Referred to as the famous Bermuda Triangle, this area of the North Atlantic Ocean stretches, roughly, from Miami, Florida to San Juan, Puerto Rico – to the island of Bermuda and back.
This vast expanse of ocean has been held in our collective consciousness as a place of high danger and mystery for years. Have you ever wondered why various vessels may have gone missing? Some may believe it is a form of alien abduction, while others may question whether lost souls and ghost ships of the sea have had something to do with its reputation.
Since seafaring and aviation began, the Triangle has claimed numerous ships and airplanes, under largely mysterious circumstances. The most famous incident to splash across headlines was the vanishing of Flight 19, a group of 5 American fighter planes that departed Fort Lauderdale, Florida on December 5th, 1945, never to return. Tragically, one of the search planes sent to look for them went missing as well. Likewise, the tale of the USS Cyclops, an American warship that departed Barbados in March 1918 carrying 309 souls, to sail nowhere but into mystery, has fed our curiosity.
Many who have navigated the waters of the Bermuda Triangle and lived to tell the tale have often reported strange phenomena, such as wandering compasses, freak waves, sudden deluges, and eerie calms. Others have reported strangely-shaped cloud formations resembling saucers, as well as sudden whirlpools and strangely-colored water. These findings and reports have brought us to the conclusion that the Bermuda Triangle really does exist.
Believers of the supernatural have numerous theories for the strange happenings and disappearing air and water crafts, ranging from leftover technologies from the lost city of Atlantis, to extraterrestrial activity and abductions. Do you believe that a force greater than ourselves is creating the disappearance of specific vessels and passengers? Should we believe that aliens are stealing these vessels over time to study and discover more about our way of life? There are numerous ways to try to understand and accept the idea of the Bermuda Triangle, but when it comes down to it, it still remains an absolute mystery to us human folk.
So what is it about the Bermuda Triangle that continues to fascinate and entice our imaginations? Is it perhaps a romantic notion that there are still places in the world that hold dark and unexplainable secrets; one last great frontier of the unknown? For now, the Bermuda Triangle will remain a legendary mystery offering questions and room for theories. This great phenomenon will continue to amaze all of those who learn about its famous disappearances and wondrous activity.
